3-1-2012: One of Killarney oldest oak tree nearly 300 years and known to thousands of walkers in the Killarney Demesne was felled during storm force winds yesterday. The majestic tree stood alone overlooking Lough Lein and The McGillycuddy Reeks Mountains and had withstood all what the elements could throw at it for hundreds of years until last night. Local people have fond memories of the tree because of its position overlooking Killarney National Park. .Photo shows Roisin Lyons from Killarney resting on the oak tree that she used to bring schoolchildren see such was its magnificience..Picture by Don MacMonagle
