There was a sense of palpable saddness this week when Killarney's 'real' Santa, Fred Overty (79) from Kilcummin passed away on Wednesday. Fred has been playing the role of Santa Claus for many years and has fronted many newspapers, documentaries and movies playing 'Mr Christmas'. Fred is survived by his wife Beryle and two sons.
