The Kenmare Bay Hotel first opened its doors on 1st May 1969 while under the ownership of Mr Joe Walsh of Joe Walsh Tours. During the intervening 35 years the hotel has focused manly on international tourism. At one stage it was almost exclusively dealing with the French market; a market that the then General Manager Mr Pat OÕ Shea had pioneered. Over the years the hotel has spread it net far and wide to include visitors from The United States, Germany, Iceland, Switzerland, Japan, New Zealand, Australia , Russia and always a substantial proportion from Great Britian.
Back in 1969 however when the prospect of the hotel was conceived the field upon which the hotel now stands was bought for the sum of £ 10,000; at that time the feeling was that no business could possibly succeed under such a heavy burdenÉÉ how times have changed. Perhaps the main reason for this continued success is the unique staff of the hotel . Most senior staff have been working in the hotel for some 20 years and one member is here for the entire lifespan of the hotel bar six monthsÉ Norah Sheehan from Sneem.
The prize for the 1,000,000 customer includes ,TRANSPORTATION TO THE KENMARE BAY HOTEL,CHAMPAGNE RECEPTION ON ARRIVAL, CELEBRATION DINNER ON THE FIRST NIGHT, ONE WEEKÕS FREE HOLIDAY AND MEALS AT THE KENMARE BAY HOTEL FOR TWO PERSONS
